1997 Minutes of the First Meeting of the
Board of Directors of
The National Button Society
Middleton, Wisconsin
The first meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Button Society
was called to order at 4: l0 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 1997 by President
Jane Leslie in the Holiday Inn Madison West, Middleton, Wisconsin with a
quorum present consisting of four elected officers, seven directors as Nancy Fink
and Gretchen Payne were absent, the three appointed otficers were in attendance,
also the editor, assistant to the editor, assistant show manager, Ann Olson-
chairman of the promotional handouts and Colorado menrberi Barbara Reiter
and Cynthia Miller.
Moved, seconded and caried to dispense with the reading of the minutes of
the last Board meeting as they were published in the bulletin and to accept as
printed.

This represents an increase overthe same period in 1996 of 514,932.77. Moved,
seconded and carried to accept the treasurer's report subject to audit.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Editor -Mr. M.W. Speights stated that Septernber I was the deadline to
receive material for the October issue. He also reported that he has contacted the
Sullivan Prir-rting Co. relative to the printing of a hardbound or spiral booklet on
modem glass. Fulher details will be sent to President Jane Leslie within a year
and he will obtain more information on costs, size, quantity, etc.
First Vice President Bonnie Nelson reported that all programs have been
scheduled for the 1998 show in Tacoma, Washington.
Second Vice Presidemt Mary Doyle. on behalf of National, will present at
our annual breakfast a gift ofappreciation to the eight living past presidents for
their service.
Library-Jane Leslie has donated to our National Library a copy of her recent
book titled "Reference on Studio Makers".
Bonnie Nelson has donated to our library a book on Hallmark Silver.
Show Manager Dottie Linley, Assistant Sl.row Managcr, reported the
following fbr this show: 103 tables sold,44 dealers in attendance and 32
packages, representing 215 trays had been shipped to the hotel. Two packages
arrived too late for entry in cornpetition. She requested that an inseft be n.rade on
