This enables the show manager to know the number of trays to expect by mail.
Promotional Handouts Ann Olson presented to the Board a printed
brochure on our hobby and asked for any substantial changes be given to her by
October 1. If approved these will be given to show managers to hand out to the
public when attending our National Show.
National Shows-Barbara Reiter of the Colorado State Button Society
extended an invitation to hold the show in the year 2001 at the Holiday lnn in
Denver for a "Button Odyssey". President Jane Leslie stated that rnore
infonnation would be obtained and a decision will be made at a later date. She
also stated that Virginia and California have extended invitations for future
shows and are working on more concrete plans with the Show Manager Phil
Linley.
President Jane Leslie repofted on the following interim business and that the
following motions had been approved:
( I ) The appointment of Helen Ryan of Pennsylvania to serve as Chairman
of Trophies effective the first of January, 1998 due to the resignation of Betty
Korostynski.
(2) The appointment of Mrs. Leah Bird of Oregon as Back Issue Chairman
of the West due to the resignation of Doris Price.
(3) Results of a poll taken last Novernberrelative to the Page Auctioneers
holding an auction the day prior to a state show at the same hotel: 27
disapproved ofthe motion, I approved and no response received from 7.
President Jane Leslie reporled that she had attended the Mahey Button
Auction June 28 and 29 and personally thanked Johr Mahey. The profit from
this auction is 52 1.407.76.
Mr. John Mahey had previously made the following stipulation:
I . I, John A. Mahey of Hanisburg, Pa., am the owner of a collection of buttons
formed by my late mother, Bemyce H. Mahey.
2. In the interest of encouraging the hobby of button collecting and to further
the good work of the National Button Society, I hereby donate this collection to
the National Button Society with the following provisions:
a. That the collection in its entirety be sold at public auction, with reserve,
by Page Auctioneers & Appraisers of Batavia, New York, at a time and place
mutually acceptable by Page Auctioneers & Appraisers and the National Button
Society.
b. Furlher, it is my desire that $1,000 from the proceeds of such sale be
added to the Bemyce H. Mahey Memorial Fund, a fund established by me in
1985 and owned by the National Button Society. Any surplus of the annual
earnings of this fund not used for the annual Bernyce H. Mahey Memorial
Award may be spent at the discretion of the National Button Society.
c. And further, that the remaining funds realized from sale of the
collection be added to the Color Fund of the National Button Society or used for
other purposes of the NBS as detemined by its directors.."
