a Is it possibte to list an entire year's schedule in udvancefor stste
Society meetings? Since many of us travel, we could make plans to include a
visit to these get-togethers if duly informed at the beginning of a year.
Afr,lany State Societies do know a year in advance where and what dates
their show will take place, but others do not. This might be something to think
about. It would take a committee to coordinate such a project and, let's say, the
list was published in a Bulletin, it would still require updating and reprinting in
each succeeding Bulletin. I don't know if this is feasible.
<-> ll/hen working on awards for 1998, which classiJication booklet is
to be ased? The awurds were sabmitted in 1997 so it would appear thut the
1997 classiJication is to be used. However, since 1998 resches us in February,
-
1998 before we woyk on trsys, there is always some confusion. Pleuse ctartfy.
A You are rightl we always use the classification booklet for the year rn
which the awards were submitted; therefore, a year earlier than the most recent
booklet. Although many times there are no diflerences in class numbers, there might
well be an addition or subtraction. Theoretically, when judging is taking place we are
all on the same wave length and using the proper classification. Please note that the
1998 classification clearly states 'TO BE USED FOR 1999 AWARDS".
a I note there are two awards this year that are for ,,Bor.ders,,
- - but
(Awords 206 and 207). The lafter one is specilic pastes und cut steels
206 indicutes "Borders, assorted materials". Does that nresn assorted border
materials or ussorted center materiuls?
A Glad you asked this question. The variety of materials in the border is
of primary importance since this award is under Cl. 356. After the borders are
judged, then the center materials would probably be considered. As I write, there
is a committee busily at work with the goal of clariSring, revising and broadening
the concept ofjust what a border is. As our classification booklet (pg. G- I I )
states, "the article in the Bulletin for September 1964 is our single reference to
groupings by border design and, while disagreement and criticism may be
justified, it is the only guide presently available to both exhibitor and judge
alike". Many of us feel it is about time that this be updated and it will be
discussed further at the classification meeting on Monday, August 1Oth in
Tacoma. Your input is invited.
