Most collectors have seen pictures of coats in books and bulletins which
show sets of l8th century under slass buttons. but seldom do we see what the
buttons look like. We are told that
these sets ranged from l6 to 24
buttons and some sets had as many
as 36. We wondered just where
this great number of buttons wcre
placed.
Here is an actual coat ofthe lSth
century which shows how they
looked. The buttons shown here
are fix6 - vamished opaque oil
paintings on silk under glass. This
coat of museum quality is from the
collection of Barbara and Tom
Barrans of Fresno, California.
You will have the opponunity lo
see this coat "in person" at our
upcoming Tacoma, Washington
convention. The California couple
will bring it to their first
convention.
