{*},lt the recent Nutional Button Society Convention, there was an
awurd for Enamels - Specialized to Busse Taille. Will you elaborate on what
such a tray might include - and why?
A Sure will. According to the Big Book of Buttons, Basse Taille
enamel is a button (or other object) "on which the bottom surface has stamped
or gouged depressions and is decorated with patterns that are engraved or
chiseled in low relief. These are filled with transparent enamel which enable
light to reflect back from the metal surface giving a rich three-dimensional
      effect and brilliant tonal qualities."
Therefore, any button which shows this process is acceptable and rnight
include buttons from Siam (Thailand), Motiwala's fluid (liquid) enamels from
India, gin bari buttons from Japan, as well as the more usual buttons (some
hallmarked silver) from England. As in other areas of competition, the more
variety the better so as long as you see some design or pattem it is usable. We
can almost coin a new name for these "DUE's" (design under enamel.)
