NATIONAL BUTTON BULLETIN
THE PRESIDENT'S PAGE
Happy l{ew Year to you all.
May I again expr"ess my sincere appreciation
for the vote of confidence placed in me at our
Annual Nleeting in Indianapolis.
This year being our Tenth Anniversary my
eo,r'nest hope is that many, many more of our
membels will find it possible to attend our
Annual Meeting and Exhibition, which will be
held at the Cleveland Hotel, in Cleveland.
This may be a, surprise to many of you who
lvere at Indianapoiis last Fall, at which time
we had hoped to be able to hold our Tenth
Anniversary in Chicago, as it was there that
our Society was organized nearly ten years ago.
Aftel' winding up the affairs of our Show at
Ilarold l\/. CRrlBon Indianapoiis I headed for Chicago to make,
SprinBfield, IIass. what I thought, flnal arrangements for our
1948 Show. but owing to certain labol con-
ditions the hotel management had decided it would be impossible for them
to let us have the large exhibition hall, which they had previously confirmed
to us, for six consecutive days (the time needed for preparation and the
Show). I want to assure you that it was not possible to find the space in
any hotel in Chicago that was a desirable place for us to hold our Tenth
Anniversary Annual Meeting and Exhibition. This will be no gireater dis-
appointmert to many of you than it was for me, for we have all been looking
forward to meeting in Chicago in 1948.
Determined that our Tenth Anniversary will be the best Show that we
have ever had, I started for Cleveland and after sevefal days there, was
successful in making arlangements at the Cleveland Hotel for the first week
in November. The allangements that were made thele ale vel'y satisfactory
from every angle and the exhibition hall will be larger than any we have
yet had. I wish it were possible for me to give you a pictu|e as I see it
when our exhibits and booths are all set up.
Enough sleeping rooms have been set aside for oul members and the
hotel management has requested that we do not write for Iesel'vations
individually until after the 1st of September'.
It is satisfying to know that next year it will be possible for all of us
to be at the same hotel, and those who come to Cleveland, either by train
or car', will not have to go out of the building as the railroad telminal and
the galage are connected with the hotel. Later BULLETINS will cart'y
mole detailed information in regald to our Tenth Annivet'sary Show.
During the long Winter evenings is the time to study our' many books
on buttons, not folgetting our own BUTTON BULLETIN. Thele is no
bettel' way to help us revamp and improve our button collections, and this
is what NIrs. Carlson and I plan to do when we have a bit of spat'e time.
Because of the pless of things we have been unable to do this of late and
therefore have not been able to exhibit our buttons. However, we are plan-
ning to get them leady for the FaIl Show, which we hope will be the largest
we have ever held.
I trust that all CIub Presidents will take uB the matter of membership
in National il everli meeting they hold and &ppoint one of their mernbers to
send these memberships to llfrs' Chamberlin. If you lYant to be certain you
have a,ll six copies of the BUTTON BLTLL TfN, enroll at once. Wonderful
things are ahead and a new llernber"sldp Directory is in the making for 1948
and all of you will want to have your names listed. I have not heard
definitely, but the dead line for this should not be later than April 1st.
Each of you please considet' yourselves members of the Membet'ship Com-
mittee and invite all Collectors to .ioin the National Button Society.
If yriu have suggestions which may help us, please tell us about then.
This is your Society and we must all continue to wolk together as we have
been doing in the past. I am counting on all of you to help make this
year, 1948 the outstanding year of our Society.
Sincerely yours, H. W. CARLSON
