       the greater        of them are wood

       are of metallic embroidely  with sequins. l'he black int  nume.ars  written
       on tiny circles of paper  have long since faded  to grey,  but the workmanship
       on, th-ese lluttons, speaks of the days when F.ance .anked  at the top in the
       art of button  making.

           Buttons such as these delicately  made specimens  are termed passemen-
       terie and we wonld have  you  turn to the N. B. S.  euarterly Bullctin,  for July,
       1946, pp. 204-207, to refresh your rtemory regaidlng the tedious and care-
