                                                 The Washington  State
                                             Guard was first formed on
                                            August 2. 1940. but was
                                          disbanded  shortly thereafter.  It
                                            was re-established  and re-

                                            organized on February  3,
                                             1941. The maximum strensth
                                            of the WSG  during WWII
                                           was 4. 166 officers and men.
                                                 One of the units which
                                             interested rre most was an
                                             Aircraft Warning  Service
                                            unit. It was responsible for
                                           nine observation posts  on the
                                            Olympic  Peninsula. The
      Plastic Cu/f'Ji'ont  Plustit Ol/'back
                                            Washington  State Guard  was
                                            eventually  disbanded in 1947.
