       environs  employed more  than 20,000  men, women, children and prisoners  in the
       protltr<tion  o.l'huttons. In 1880 it was estimated there  v,ere 140 maru(acturers  qf
       buttons in the Paris  vicini4' tompu'ed to 55 in all tf'the U.S.
