4-3. Two good leather imitations; even the gold bow has a leather look.
4-4. (a) Fantastic plique-a-jour imitation. The openwork brass metalized
piece snaps over the turquoise transparent back piece, and goes through the
shank. (b) The back piece imitates ebony and the center piece is a good amber
imitation.
4-5. (a) Copper r.netalized with imitation agate center. (b) Silver "mirror"
center snaps through gold metalized back.
4-6. The back part is flat, bright gold metalized and creates a background
for the smiley face open-work top piece.
4-1 . The snap-through piece is openwork white plastic which tops a
"hologram-type" background all set in a gold metalized frame. A beautiful
example of how good our modem plastics can be.
4-8. The snap-through piece is openwork yellow metalized, showing a
background ofthe black plastic base.
1-9. The typical snap-through shank showing both sides of the same button.
This type shows the shank the same color as the top piece.
4-10. (a) 2-hole sew-through school slate. Here the black piece snaps into the
yellow base. (b) 2-hole sew-through pencil. The snap-together paft on this
unusual type is the eraser-which snaps onto the end of the pencil with no shank
involvemcnt.
4-ll. The only 4-hole sew-through I've found-another mechanical with 5
turquoise plastic balls which roll around their track formed by the black and
turquoise circular pieces which snap together.
4-12. The bear's head has a self-shank; the red bow was snapped on and
glued to stay-at the factory.
4-13. (a) This orange has a very interesting snap{ogether style. The green
leafhas a parlial back, extendingjust far enough to allow the orange shank to
snap through it. "JAPAN" backmark is on the green part. (b) Babar is
backmarked "Boutons Kocher O 90L de Brunhoff'.
4-14. (a) Car mechanical backmark: "U.P.F.". (b) Mickey Mouse backmark:
"Boutons Kocher O Disney".
16-20. Subject matter is rich in our snap-togethers, so I just tried to show a
representation, albeit very limited, of our four pictorial sections here.
4-17. (a) is a palm tree.
4-20. (a) Donald Duck is used here as a Sect. l5 story button. (c) Unusual
fabulous animal, gold nT etalized, which snaps through a jade green back.
