THE PRESIDENT'Ei MESSAEiE
April, 1968
Greetings to members everyluhere:
I do hope that you have been working on your
entries to be sent to the beautiful Broadview Hotel
in Wichita, Kansas in September. It will be a
pleasure to meet with our Mid-Western collectors
and friends. Be sure to read and re-read the in-
structions printed in the March Bulletin. T'he an-
swers to many of the questions you may have are
in this issue, with other information you might need
in regard to entering trays for one of the awards.
Ilemember if your entry does not arrive at the hotel
in time it may not be judged. Ttre shipment should
be adequately wrapped to guard against damage.
The members of the I(ansas society, and the sur-
EDITII A. R,ODWAY rounding State Societies are busy with plans to
a"ssure all will be in readiness when we arrive at the
hotel. I wonder if the average member realizes the amount of planning a National
Button Society meeting entails. Each pair of hands do make the work lighter.
I have enjoyed the corespondence I have received from new collectors as well
as the older members. Quite a few have learned about our hobby for the first time.
I have had letters from a few new Juniors. The Director of this section of the
National Button Society is Mrs. Edna Babington, of Minnesota, who has labored
long hours in behalf of the children. Ttue, some adults do help them with mount-
ing the buttons for competition, but I do not see that this is detrimental. Who
else would a Junior turn to for assistance, but to their elders. If a state society
or a local club would care to lend a helping hand in this work, I know that Mrs.
Babington would appreciate an alticle for the News Sheet, or a donation of money.
Splendid news from Nevada. This state will organize a state society and wiU
join the Nstional Button Society. Mrs. Dorothy Waldron is the founder. This
small group had a display of over 80 trays of buttons which was shown in stores,
libraries and other locations in the area. Taking into consideration that this group
has just been formed, the showing represents a tremendous amount of work and
planning. Good luck! There has been a new club started in New Jersey, and
others through-out the country. It is gratifying to learn of the growth of the
hobby.
T'lxe Madison CIub of Wisconsin is busy working on a collection of slides show-
ing the method of assembling buttons. These slides were taken by Mr. Paul Pierce.
When this work is completed the collection will be presented to the traveling
exhibit. There will be no commentary as the slides are self-explanatory, and will
be announced in the bultetin when it is completed and available. T'he Madison Club
will donate a container for the collection.
Enjoy the summer and we will meet in September.
