        5 May 1821:  The CGP to the A & I General,  Pa.rker,  communicated  the de-
                      sire of Gener.al Scott that there be three rows of buttons  on the
                      breast of the coat instead of one, and requested eaJly instruc-
                      tions; he suggested  the use of copper or quarter bullet buttot]s
                      in lieu of large flat buttons.
        30 May 1821:  Leavenwolth,  Hayden & Scovill  had a contract to make buttons.
                      Armitage also continued  to make In-fantry  and A-rtillet'y buttons
                      which were sent to officers  on their individual  request and were
                      paid for by them-a  few dozen at a time.
              L822:  James  L. Scovill,  Waterbury, appears to have had the contract
                      for buttons in 1822.
        15 Jan. 1824:  Richard  Robinson, Attleboro, appears to have had the contract
                      for making  buttons in 1824.
        25 Jan. 1825:  Leavenworth & Co., Water'bur.y, had a contract  for' making
                      buttons  (Altillery  and U S).
        25 June 1825:  Armitage made InJantry buttons.
        21 Apr. 1826:  The lollowing  olders  for buttons  were given:
                      Leavenworth & Co., great-coat  buttons, large  200 gloss,  small
                      100 gross.  Richard  Robinson, 450 gross Artillery butLons,  coats.
                      George Armitage,  800 gross Infantry  coat and 500  gross U S
                      buttons.
              1821:   The following  contracts  were in force:
                      R. Robinson,  450 Artillery buttons,  coats.
                      George Armitage,  800  gross Infantry  coat and 500  gross U  S
                      buttons.
                      R. Robirson & Co., Artillery buttons,  250 gr coat and 100 gr vest.
                      William  Pinchin, 1000  gross Infantry  coat button,  282 gross small
                      dead  eye buttons,  and 557  gross U S white metal.
