The President's Message
Dear NBS Members,
The holidays are over and I am looking forward to the
signs of Spring peeking forth in a few weeks. I hope you
enjoyed the holiday time with family and friends. As the
short days and long nights continue, I find myself in my
button room "playing" as I sort and separate for the coming Bonnie Nelson,
President
Spring show and National in August. Although I have
decided not to compete for the past years, I put together traysjust for fun and
then check at the shows to see how they compare. In the past, I found myself
buying only for competition and felt that some of the joy and fun had gone out
of my hobby. Since my tastes are varied I now shop for things which I just
can't live without (Too many are in this category).
Please spend time going over the awards and glossary to make sure you
are knowledgeable before you start putting your trays together. Mary Johnson,
Barb Johnson and Tammy Jones have spent a lot of time trying to get them
right for you. It looks as though there are some fun and challenging ones to
work on. Ifyou have a category that youjust can't figure out or find
information on, please do not hesitate to write. It is only by your letters, that
we can know what things are confusing. I have received several questions
regarding victorians and victorian celluloids which I believe Barb Johnson is
working on. Also if you would like more information on certain topics, please
write to Freddie and Lucille for possible arlicles and to Marv Dovle for
programs at National.
Shortly before Thanksgiving, the Linleys and Pete and I went to visit the
site for our National in 2000. We found that it met all our requirements and
hope that you will enjoy Omaha. I know that some of you are worried about
the heat in Arizona in August but our facilities are fully air-conditioned and it
cools down at night. Remember you will be so busy buttoning that you won't
have much time outside.
I am planning on being at lots of state shows this spring, so stop and say
"Hi" if you see me. Until then,
Happy Buttoningl
