240 NATIONAL BUTTON BULLETIN May, 19 5 4

                 5. Metallized. Some sets are coated with a gold, silver or antiqued
finish. Do not mix these with each other, or with colored buttons.
                 6. Jerveled eyes. This method of decoration is distinct and should
not be mixed with other methods of decoration.
                 7. Nlulti-colored sets. A recent innovation (especially for gum ma-
cirines and for prizes in popcorn) is the use of two colors on a button' The
base of the button is tvhite and has a thin wash of a flat paint, either of a
glay or unusual color, which adhers in the grooves and indentions of the
button. Here one color combination should be used in a set'
In order to clarify the cornposition of modern sets, we decided several
years ago to appoint a Recorder of modern sets. our President, l{rs. Florence
Aberle, chose Mls. Ruth N. Berry for the job rvhen she was in ofice and
\Irs. Bel'ry is stitl gathering information. she has furnished the rnaterial
for the list of goofie sets which we now print. \'Irs. Nlyrtie Kuypers, who
has rvorked closely rvith Mrs. Berry, has furnished the material for the list
of modern sets that have conventional shapes.
These iists are not final and can be changed, but will be used by the
judges in 1954 to determine the composition of these sets. Sets not listed
are still eligible fof competition. Before a final listing can be published,
we wiil need proof of set composition based on original cards, samDle books,
             or other authoritative sources'
