"Nut 'l'rees." Looking a bit closer at the
button l'e rote the same frock-coated gentle-
man shaking his cane at a squirrel " rvhose
sharp eyes hid among tlie tliickest leaves "
have discovered the nuts.

We found the identification for this
lrrrttorr in the Ilonta Picture Book For
I'ittlc Chi,ld,ren, publishecl in the late
1870s. bJ. the llorne Tnsqrance Company
of Nerv York. The tlrarvirrgs are b;t
Oscar Pletsch. In this illustration his
signature "O.P," and date "1878tt are
visible at the lotver left. The poem
accompanying the drawing is as follo'lvs:

The small button is two-niece
stamped brass with the clesign in low
relief. Both the button and the charm-
ing little book are in the writer's collec-
tion.
