                             IN MEMORIAM

                           Jeanne S. Thornton
Jeanne S. Thornton, a founder of the Nevada State Button Society died in May
1989 following a short illness. She had been in failing health for several years, but
maintained her enthusiasm for life and for her many activities until about two weeks
before her death. She was responsible for obtaining the Pioneer Theater for the 1972
Reno National Show. She had not been able to work with buttons for a number of
years, but she supported active Nevada collectors in many ways. She will be missed.
                                                              J. Button
                                                      -Dorothy
                              Verda Mitchell
Things are not the same for Illinois collectors since the passing of Verda Mitchell in
July 1989. She was a member of local clubs, state and National organizations, a
collector and dealer, honest and fair. She went out ofher way to bring members to club
meetings. She delighted in finding a religious button that she did not have and enjoyed
sharing her trays at various shows. Verda left an influence that will help guide us to be
better button people, more thoughtful of others, and more willing to share our
     knowledge and buttons with others.

retiring in 1973. A Native of Georgia, she moved to Bethesda, MD in 1943. She died on
March 9 after a long illness. H allye loved all types of buttons, especially lacy glass and
zodiacs. We will all miss her.

                           Lonnie Montgomery
Mrs. Lonnie Montgomery of Sacrament, KY passed away recently. She was one of
the founding members of the Kentucky Little Colonels Button Club and formerly
lived in the Louisville area. She loved buttons and antiques of all kinds. Our sympathy
is extended to her three sisters and a brother.

                             Clara Whiteford
Members of the National Button Society were shocked and deeply grieved to learn
of the sudden death of Clara Whiteford in late March. Clara, the devoted wife of
former N.B.S. President John Whiteford, will be sincerely missed by her many friends.
