IN MEMORIAM
Jeanne S. Thornton
Jeanne S. Thornton, a founder of the Nevada State Button Society died in May
1989 following a short illness. She had been in failing health for several years, but
maintained her enthusiasm for life and for her many activities until about two weeks
before her death. She was responsible for obtaining the Pioneer Theater for the 1972
Reno National Show. She had not been able to work with buttons for a number of
years, but she supported active Nevada collectors in many ways. She will be missed.

Verda Mitchell
Things are not the same for Illinois collectors since the passing of Verda Mitchell in
July 1989. She was a member of local clubs, state and National organizations, a
collector and dealer, honest and fair. She went out ofher way to bring members to club
meetings. She delighted in finding a religious button that she did not have and enjoyed
sharing her trays at various shows. Verda left an influence that will help guide us to be
better button people, more thoughtful of others, and more willing to share our
knowledge and buttons with others.
