CROCHET BUTTONS REEXAMINED
Collectors have called them all "crochet," but "v-ou will flnd that they
are that and more besides. Let's look at the facts. Let's find out $-hich
ihread covers are actually crochet work and which are not. You may be one
of the many who thought you had only crochet buttons when in reality you
had othel desirable types too which you failed to recognize for what they
were.
As a beginning, go through all of your "crochet" buttons carefully
putting them into tvr'o groups, those that fit the name perfectly and those
that do not. You witl be surprised to see how large the second group is.
Then study the thread covers which are not crocheted and try to separate
them according to type.
The three articles which follow, "The Meaning of the Term'Crochet',"
"'Ihread Buttons Named 'lA/heels'," and "Death's-head Pattern Mistaken for
Crochet" will get you well started in the rediscovery of what you have
collected.
